Views Going Up Banff Gondola

The ascent on the Banff Gondola begins with close views of the forested slopes of Sulphur Mountain. As the gondola leaves the lower terminal, the cabins glide just above tall evergreen trees that blanket the mountainside. From the windows, riders can see dense stands of spruce, pine, and fir stretching across the slope, giving a close perspective of the mountain forest before the gondola climbs higher above the canopy.
Within a short time the gondola begins gaining noticeable elevation. Looking downward, passengers can see the forest falling away beneath the cable line while the valley slowly opens beyond the trees. The town of Banff gradually appears below, nestled in the wide Bow Valley. Roads, buildings, and the winding Bow River become visible as the gondola rises higher above the valley floor.
Midway through the ascent, the view becomes more expansive. Riders can see long slopes of forest stretching across the mountainsides while distant peaks begin to emerge along the horizon. The gondola line itself can often be seen extending up the mountain, with other cabins spaced along the cable as they travel between the base and the summit.
As the gondola approaches the upper portion of the climb, the scenery becomes increasingly panoramic. The surrounding peaks of Banff National Park dominate the skyline, and the Bow Valley spreads widely below. The summit station soon comes into view along the ridgeline, marking the final moments of the ride before the gondola glides into the upper terminal high above the mountain landscape.
