The south patio view at the summit of the Banff Gondola offers a more tranquil and expansive perspective compared to the busier viewpoints facing the Bow Valley. From this side, the landscape opens into a series of rolling mountain ridges and forested slopes that stretch deep into the southern reaches of Banff National Park.

One of the defining features of this view is the presence of Mount Rundle, whose long, linear ridgeline cuts across the scene. From the patio, you see it from a slightly offset angle that emphasizes its length and layered structure rather than its height. Beyond it, the terrain becomes progressively more remote, with fewer visible signs of human activity.

Looking down from the patio, steep alpine slopes descend into dense subalpine forest, eventually giving way to broader valleys. The sense of elevation is pronounced here - you can clearly see how quickly the terrain drops away beneath your feet. The less than 10 min ride up was amazing.

The trip up was slightly scary as this was my first time ever using one, was quickly taken over by awe and wonder. The less than 10 min ride up was amazing. Upon arriving I was amazed by what arriving at the top had in store for me. A couple shops to buy various memorables. A coffee shop with probably the best chocolate chip cookie I ever ate. Mountain top coffee co. Wins a top rating with sjhean stealing my spotlight for service. Good on you miss. Although the dining experience i didnt entertain was available i imagine it would've been also a top rating. 4 levels to this building. Including a boardwalk path to a nearest peak which was incredible. Photos herein. I will definitely recommend at least a once over for this place. Very enriching experience. Lots to explore and experience here. Your visit can last all day if you wanted it to. Peak season will see a lot of tourists as it is a highly recommended place to visit and my experience tells me that I will be returning. Worth every penny.

We did the Banff Gondola at sunset and it was absolutely worth it. It was cold heading up, but the experience was made so comfortable - staff handed out blankets in the gondola, which was a thoughtful touch. At the top, there were warm pelts available and a fire set up near an igloo, complete with marshmallows to toast, which added a lovely, cosy atmosphere.
The views were stunning. Watching the light change over Banff as the sun set, with sweeping views toward the Cascade Mountains, was unforgettable. It felt peaceful, scenic, and surprisingly relaxed despite the popularity of the attraction. The facilities at the top are well organised and encourage you to take your time rather than rush back down.
Overall, it felt like more than just a ride - it was a well-considered experience that balanced comfort, scenery, and atmosphere beautifully. Highly recommend doing it at sunset if you can. Highly recommended to buy the dinner package to the Sky Bistro, package deal is cheaper than doing it separately.

If you're visiting Banff, I highly recommend adding this to your trip.

The Banff Gondola was honestly a little scary for me at first (I'm terrified of heights), but it was also SO beautiful and completely worth it. The ride up gives you unreal views of the mountains and the whole Banff area, and once you get to the top there's a bunch of Bighorn sheep & a place to get food/drinks. The viewpoints are stunning, the boardwalk/scenic walk is amazing, and there are spots to hang out and really take it all in. If you're visiting Banff, I highly recommend adding this to your trip - the scenery from above is absolutely incredible!

The Banff Gondola is an incredible experience and absolutely worth it. At the top, you'll find restaurants and a souvenir shop, making it easy to spend time enjoying the place. Don't miss the terrace - having blankets and a fire pit makes it extra cozy while you take in the breathtaking views.

Took the Banff Gondola recently and it was an amazing experience! The ride up Sulphur Mountain is smooth and comfortable, and the views along the way are absolutely stunning. Once at the top, the panoramic scenery of the Rockies and Banff town is breathtaking. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the area.
