I've done the Banff Gondola a few times now and it's always a killer view - 360 Degree mountains, great boardwalk at the top and tons of spots for photos and video. I always book online in advance and wouldn't do it any other way; you lock in a time, skip the ticket line, and it's usually cheaper than buying day-of.
In peak season it gets busy fast, so expect crowds, lineups and a packed summit building if you roll in mid-day in summer. If you want a quieter vibe like I do, go in shoulder season or winter and aim for earlier in the morning or later in the evening - way fewer people and the views are just as good, sometimes better with the snow.
Dress for the weather because it's colder and windier at the top, and bring a layer even on a "nice" "day. Parking can fill up, so consider the shuttle or local transit instead of circling the lot. Overall, if you're into scenery and shooting photos/video, this is one of the best bang-for-your-time views in Banff - just plan ahead and avoid the mid-day summer crush and you'll have a way better experience.

The 2200 foot climb with 2-4 seat gondola cabins is a must do on any bucket list. There are 3 restaurants at the top. A cafe with plenty of eats and bevies, a buffet style restaurant with an amazing aray of food items and desserts, and the Sky Bistro. The reward at the top are the stunning mountain views. I encourage you to take the boardwalk to the peak. Dress appropriately and proper footwear suggested.
